Will miss you grandpa Eldon. I will always remember our nights at the house when I was 13. We watch the dating show on MTV and our water fight the night before I was to go home . Man was Grandma Lois mad we did it right before we we're supposed to be leaving for dinner. Lol. Miss ya
Harry Eldon Powers, 88, of New London, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Henry County Health Center. He was born September 17, 1929 in Washington, Iowa to Forrest Irvin and Ruth Diller Powers. February 26, 1960, he married Catherine LaMar in Mt. Pleasant; she died April 10, 1987. He married Lois Jean Hummell April 1, 1988; she died January 7, 2010.
He attended Washington County Schools. Mr. Powers worked at IAAP in Middletown retiring after 44 years. He was a member of the Machinist Union; enjoyed hunting, fishing, sports, time with family, gardening, watching westerns, was a fan of the Cubs, Bears and Hawkeyes; and loved his dogs, Tippy and Molly.
Survivors include one son, Doug (Rhonda) Powers; stepson, Timothy (Erma) Glassford of Tennessee; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda (Lester) Branch of LaHarpe and Donna Gorrell of Loveland, Colorado and brother Dale (Anna) Powers, Iowa City. Besides his parents and both wives, he was preceded in death by one son, Michael and one sister in infancy.
The funeral service for Harry Eldon Powers will be held at 11:00 Friday at Elliott Chapel, New London. Visitation will begin at 9:00 with the family present to receive friends beginning at 10:00 until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Indian Creek Cemetery, Columbus Jct. A memorial has been established for New London Fire and Rescue.
